Editorial Services Path

Welcome down the path of all things editing here at Between Chapters! Your book can be everything you want it to be - and I can help you get it there. Take a look at the types of editing below, and the different ways we can mix and match them to be whatever you need.

what kind of editing
do you need?

full service

editing

Consider this all-inclusive

editing. A mix of developmental

editing and copy/line editing -

I've  tailor-made  this package for indie authors.

I will go through your manuscript line by line,

helping to strengthen prose, standardize grammar,

and solidify the plot. This is the path to take if

you're looking for a partner in crime!

A full service edit will include

elements of both editing styles -

providing a start-to-finish editor

on your team.

developmental

editing

This is what I like to call Big Picture editing - and it's usually the first kind of editing you'll need.

Developmental Editing will take a look at your story's theme, the structure, the timeline, and the character arcs. We'll look closer at the story as a whole, and less at the style, grammar, and text.

Developmental editing is great for early drafts, or even outlines - and can also be super useful if you're feeling stuck!

why work with
between chapters?

Have you ever read something so many times, it doesn't make sense anymore? That's what it's like when we try to edit our own work. We start out in love with this beautiful new world we've made, and the next thing we know, our eyes glaze over, we no longer see the errors... or worse, that's all we see. Over-editing is a real thing, and I've seen people get so close to their manuscript that they end up hating it.

This is why we all need a fresh set of eyes on our work! We need someone to look at the grammar and syntax, at the characterization and timeline, and at the themes and beats - someone other than ourselves. And then we need that person to communicate what needs work, and what DOES work... preferably without breaking our spirits.

I want to be that person for you!

I want to hold space for your story to be exactly what it is meant to, exactly how you mean to tell it. I will use my copy editing background, and my lifelong love of books, to help you find the flaws, kill the darlings, and embrace the brilliance in your story.

Whether you're just beginning and want a set of eyes on that outline and elevator pitch, you're at the point where you need a developmental or copy edit, or it's time for that final proofread before diving into the world of querying or self-publishingI will be there. I will talk through your characters' motivations, sniff out those errors, and clean up your prose until it shines as bright as your story. I will go on this journey with you, and help you to remember to enjoy it.

You are truly the only person who can tell your story... but that doesn't mean you have to go it alone!

Based on Needs

want to be sure that we'll make a good team?
The Editor-Writer bond is an important one, so I want to ensure we're both comfortable.
I offer a First Steps Edit for $50 for all new clients !
Send me the first 10 pages of your story (TNR, double-spaced) and I'll do a full edit so we can make sure it's a good match.
If we both decide to move forward, that payment will go toward the deposit for your editing slot.
This is a journey, and we want to ensure it feels like a good match to both of us.
